Medical Staff Talent is securing an elite UK & European-trained Physician to join a privately owned luxury vessel on a permanent, full-time basis, delivering premium healthcare while voyaging through the Mediterranean.

The Mandate

Sole medical authority on board as the vessel navigates an itinerary across the Mediterranean’s most sought-after coastal destinations. Frontline clinical decision-making for the principal, family and crew, combining general medicine competency with acute response capability at sea.

Requirements

  • Medical degree with broad clinical competency (Emergency Medicine, General Practice or Internal Medicine background preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years’ post-qualification experience
  • Registration in a Tier-1 UK or European system (UK, Ireland, or an accepted European jurisdiction)
  • Comfort with extended periods at sea and irregular working patterns
  • Fluent English

What this appointment asks of you

The physician is the sole medical authority on board, responsible for the principal, the family and the crew across a Mediterranean itinerary. The medicine is general in scope and acute in character: routine consultations, chronic disease oversight, minor injuries and illnesses among the crew, and the readiness to stabilise and evacuate a serious presentation from a vessel that may be hours from a tertiary hospital. You will maintain the onboard medical suite, plan for each port’s receiving facilities, and liaise with specialists ashore when a case needs one. The household selects for breadth, composure and self-sufficiency; emergency medicine, general practice or internal medicine backgrounds fit naturally, and comfort with irregular hours at sea is essential.

Registration and sea-readiness

Onboard appointments are governed by your home registration rather than by a single Gulf regulator, together with the maritime requirements of the vessel’s flag state and management company. In practice the sequence is:

  • Home registration in good standing (GMC, NMC, HCPC or your European regulator) with a current certificate of good standing, verified through DataFlow so the file is portable.
  • STCW basic safety training and a seafarer medical certificate (ENG1 or the national equivalent), which most management companies require before embarkation; maritime medical training is valued.
  • Where the household winters in the Gulf, activation of a DHA, DOH or SCFHS registration for the shore season — we sequence the DataFlow stage early and brief you on what it will need, so it does not delay the first winter.
  • Onboarding with the household and the captain: NDA execution, cabin allocation, medical locker and inventory handover, and the evacuation protocols for the season’s itinerary.

How the package is structured

Remuneration from £240,000 per annum is quoted net, with accommodation and travel provided by the household; living costs at sea are close to nil, which is why onboard appointments build savings faster than the headline figure suggests.

Life on board and between charters

Life on board follows the season: the Côte d’Azur, the Balearics, Sardinia and the Amalfi coast, the Greek islands, with the itinerary set by the family and the vessel’s programme. Between charters there are flights home; during them there is a private cabin, a crew that runs to a high standard, and the discipline of a small, close community. How the search is run

We run this search as a full-cycle search under a retained, confidential mandate. The first conversation is with Vanessa, our Executive Search Lead, and it is a briefing rather than a screening: what the appointment involves day to day, what the household selects for, and whether it fits the life you want. Your CV goes nowhere until you say so.
