Private osteopathy appointments in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar for GOsC-registered osteopaths, retained by private families, usually alongside a physiotherapist. Osteopathy is the discipline where the gap between UK and Gulf regulation is widest, so this page starts there.
The title question comes first
In the UK, osteopathy is a statutorily regulated profession with a protected title. The Gulf does not treat it the same way everywhere. In the UAE, osteopathy is licensed within the complementary and alternative medicine framework rather than alongside physiotherapy, and in each jurisdiction the title and scope available to you can be narrower than your UK practice. That is not a reason to rule the Gulf out; it is a reason to settle the question for your own qualification and experience before any introduction is made, which is how we work.
Our article Why osteopathy sits beside physiotherapy explains why households retain both, and the GCC Licensing Classifier gives a first indication of where a regulator may place you.
Keeping your GOsC registration
GOsC registration is renewed annually, and the Council has a specific application for registrants who are practising overseas; ask GOsC which applies to you, and what it costs, before you leave. Your CPD obligation continues on the GOsC’s three-year cycle of 90 hours, at least 45 of them learning with others. Household work abroad gives you a great deal of one-to-one practice to reflect on, but the learning-with-others element needs planning: peer discussion, courses on return visits and online case review with UK colleagues all help.
Gulf regulators verify your registration at source through DataFlow, so a current GOsC record, or its equivalent on your European register, is the starting point. We map the licensing route with you and guide you through it; we do not submit applications, process DataFlow or sponsor visas. Care inside a residence is delivered through a licensed entity; see Who May Lawfully Treat Inside a Private Residence.
Households that retain an osteopath are usually treating chronic pain or structural problems that have outlasted conventional rehabilitation. They are looking for time, touch and judgement.
What households ask osteopaths to do
Chronic pain and structural work for principals and family members, one-to-one and unhurried, in a treatment room within the residence.
Work beside the physiotherapist, sharing a programme rather than competing for the patient. See Longevity and Elite Performance Physiotherapy for the kind of programme you would join.
Travel with the family, where long flights and changes of residence make continuity of hands-on care valuable. See The Clinician in Transit.
Appointments are Live-Out, Live-In, Rotational, Fixed-Term, Travelling, Locum or Sessional/Retainer, and each mandate states its model; see Live-In, Rota or Travelling? The contract is signed directly between you and the family or its licensed entity. We introduce and verify, and the family pays our fee.
Where osteopaths are placed
Osteopathy mandates are fewer and rarely advertised, so our Gulf register for osteopaths is the standing brief we place against throughout the year. The Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Jeddah, Eastern Province and Doha pages list open physiotherapy and osteopathy mandates city by city.
Questions GOsC-registered osteopaths ask
Can I practise as an osteopath for a family in the Gulf?
Yes, but the title and scope available can be narrower than in the UK, and in the UAE osteopathy is licensed within the complementary and alternative medicine framework. We settle the route for your qualification before any introduction.
Should I stay on the GOsC register?
Most osteopaths do. GOsC has a specific application for registrants practising overseas; check with GOsC which applies to you. Your CPD continues on the three-year, 90-hour cycle.
Will I work alone?
Usually not. Most household osteopaths work alongside a physiotherapist, and often within a wider team that includes a physician and nurses.
Who employs me, and who pays your fee?
The family, or its licensed entity, under a contract you sign directly with them. We introduce and verify, and our fee is paid by the family.
Register confidentially
Send us your CV in confidence. Nothing is shared with a family without your agreement. See also our Physiotherapists & Osteopaths practice, the page for HCPC-registered physiotherapists and all current mandates.
