Consultant & Doctor Jobs in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi is the Emirate that hires deliberately

Operators with facilities on both sides of the E11 rarely choose between the Emirates on purpose. The appointment lands wherever there is a vacant office and a facility licence already in hand. For a package of £200,000 to £410,000 that is an expensive way to allocate capital — and for a consultant deciding where to spend the next decade, it is worse.

Abu Dhabi differs from Dubai in ways that matter to a senior clinician. The patient mix is weighted more heavily toward Emirati nationals. The facilities are fewer and larger. Sovereign and royal-wing provision is a substantially bigger share of the market. And the Department of Health licenses independently — a Dubai licence does not carry across.

What the Abu Dhabi market is actually buying

Sovereign and royal-wing appointments. A significant proportion of senior demand in the Emirate sits inside dedicated royal medical wings and sovereign clinical commands, not general private practice. These mandates pay at the top of the band and are governed by strict confidentiality from first contact.

Complex tertiary capability. Paediatric surgery with neonatal services, emergency medicine at genuine acuity, advanced surgical infrastructure with procurement input. Abu Dhabi’s facilities are built at a scale that supports work Dubai’s more fragmented private market often cannot.

Medical leadership. Chief medical consultant and medical director mandates recur here more than anywhere else we recruit, because the institutional structures are larger and the leadership layer is correspondingly deeper.

If Dubai is where a consultant reproduces a Western sub-specialty career, Abu Dhabi is where they get to run something.

Choosing between the Emirates

The comparison is not really about money — the bands overlap substantially. It is about caseload composition, institutional scale and whether you want to practise or to lead. We publish an honest view of both sides, and we will tell you when Abu Dhabi is the wrong answer for your specialty.
