Licensing and Relocation
Medical Staff Talent provides discreet advisory guidance on documentation, licensing and onboarding throughout the QCHP (Qatar) licensing process, including what Dataflow primary source verification will ask of you and when. See our Gulf healthcare licensing support for the full sequence.
What this appointment asks of you
The remit spans the youngest members of a Royal Household — neonatal care in the early months, paediatric nursing as the children grow — alongside general residential nursing for the family. That breadth is the point: the household wants one clinician who can move from a newborn’s feeding plan to a toddler’s febrile illness to a parent’s travel medicine without changing tempo. You will coordinate closely with visiting paediatric and neonatal consultants, keep immaculate records, and manage the small, permanent rhythm of a home rather than the churn of a ward. Nurses who have combined special care baby unit or paediatric experience with private duty work will recognise the shape of the role immediately.
Licensing sequence: DHP (QCHP), Qatar
Qatar licenses clinicians through the Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP) at the Ministry of Public Health, under the QCHP framework. For a residential appointment the sequence is:
- DataFlow primary source verification of your nursing degree, current registration (NMC, NMBI or your European regulator), certificate of good standing and experience letters on institutional letterhead — typically four to eight weeks with a complete dossier.
- DHP evaluation and registration: a Prometric assessment applies to some nursing categories; we confirm your exemption position before you commit.
- Licence issuance against the sponsoring entity associated with the household, followed by the residence permit and medical examination.
- Household onboarding: NDA execution, accommodation, banking and the practical steps we coordinate with the family office before your first day.
Qatar is a dossier-first jurisdiction — files that are complete and consistent move quickly, files with gaps stall. Our notes on DHP licensing in 2026, the QCHP licensing guide and why Qatar rewards preparation set out what to prepare. Nurses should also read how NMC, NMBI and European registrations are treated.
How the package is structured
The figure quoted above — £55,000 – £65,000 per annum — is base remuneration, and it is paid tax-free: Qatar levies no personal income tax on employment earnings, so the number on the offer is the number that arrives.
Accommodation, flights and medical cover are provided in addition to base, which is what makes the net position so different from a UK or European salary: with housing and travel carried by the household, most of the base figure is savings capacity. Health insurance in Gulf contracts explains the cover clauses worth reading twice.
End-of-service gratuity accrues under local labour law for each completed year and is paid when the contract ends; our note on end-of-service gratuity and repatriation explains how it is calculated and what to check in the contract.
If you are leaving the UK part-way through a tax year, split-year treatment under the Statutory Residence Test usually applies; keep a day-count from the date you leave and take advice from a cross-border adviser — we point every candidate to one, and tax-free wealth preservation for Gulf clinicians sets out the planning points.
Run your own comparison with the UK versus GCC net position calculator or the Gulf net package estimator; we are happy to walk through the result with you before any interview.
Living in Doha
Doha is compact, calm and well organised: West Bay and The Pearl for waterfront living, Lusail as the new city to the north, Msheireb’s restored downtown, Education City’s universities and a cultural offer led by the Museum of Islamic Art and the National Museum. Household appointments include accommodation provided by the family — within the estate or a residence nearby — so relocation is about settling in rather than searching.
Winters are pleasant and outdoor; summers are hot and humid. Hamad International flies direct to London and the European hubs in around seven hours. Families have a solid choice of British and American curriculum schools — the Doha compounds and schools guide covers compounds and catchments, our international school fees benchmark gives current fees — and the cultural adjustment guide covers the adjustments worth anticipating.
How the search is run
We run this search as a full-cycle search under a retained, confidential mandate. The first conversation is with Vanessa, our Executive Search Lead, and it is a briefing rather than a screening: what the appointment involves day to day, what the household selects for, and whether it fits the life you want. Your CV goes nowhere until you say so.
If you proceed, your dossier is checked against the licensing route above, the household is briefed on an anonymised profile, and interviews run by video before an in-person meeting arranged by the family. Offer, NDA and contract are settled before any licensing fee is incurred. The time-to-hire estimator gives realistic timings for a nurse appointment; confidential hiring process and confidentiality, NDA and vetting explain the household’s side of the process.
