Travelling Family Medicine Physician — Private Family, Abu Dhabi

Medical Staff Talent

Private Medical Recruitment for the Gulf | UK & European Trained Specialists

Medical Staff Talent is introducing a UK & European-trained Family Medicine Physician to a private family based in Abu Dhabi. The physician is the family’s own GP — at the residence and on the road — travelling with the family between residences and abroad.

It is a personal appointment rather than a clinic post: one family, a small patient panel, and continuity of care wherever the family happens to be.

The Mandate

  • First-contact family medicine for the Principal and immediate family: assessment, preventative care, long-term conditions and acute presentations.
  • Travel with the family between residences and internationally, often at short notice.
  • Medical planning for each trip, and referral to and coordination of specialist care when it is needed.
  • Personal physician to the family, under absolute confidentiality.

Candidate Requirements

  • Family medicine / general practice training — CCT in General Practice or a recognised European equivalent.
  • Substantial independent experience as a GP or family medicine physician in a UK or European healthcare system.
  • Current registration with your UK or European regulator, in good standing.
  • Readiness to travel with the family worldwide, often at short notice, and complete flexibility around the family’s calendar.
  • Willingness to relocate alone: this is a live-in, single-status appointment.
  • Composure, discretion and native-level or fluent English.
  • Availability to start within six weeks of offer.

Package

  • £240,000 per annum, tax-free, with accommodation and travel included.
  • Private quarters within the residence.
  • All travel with the family arranged and covered by the household.
  • Generous annual leave.

What this appointment asks of you

General practice, done properly, for one family. The physician knows every patient’s history, sees them early rather than late, manages what can be managed at home and arranges the right specialist when it cannot. Because the family moves — between residences in the region and abroad — the doctor moves with them, so that the medical relationship never has to restart with a stranger. The family will look for a broad, confident family medicine physician who is comfortable being the only clinician in the room, who prepares for each trip in advance and who carries authority quietly. Discretion is not a soft skill here; it is the basis of the appointment.

Scope of Our Role

Medical Staff Talent introduces and verifies clinicians. The engagement is contracted directly between the family and the clinician, and all local arrangements (visa, licensed entity, coordination with local clinics) remain with the family’s own office and advisers.

Reading the package

Base remuneration for this appointment is £240,000 per annum, with accommodation and travel included, paid without deduction: there is no personal income tax on employment earnings in the UAE, which is why a Gulf figure should never be compared line-for-line with a gross UK or European salary.

Private accommodation within the residence and travel with the family are provided in addition to base; before signing, confirm how indemnity will be arranged and read the policy territory and the run-off provision — medical liability in the UAE and Saudi Arabia sets out the questions to ask.

An end-of-service gratuity accrues for every completed year of service and is settled on departure — see end-of-service gratuity and repatriation for the calculation and the contract clauses that govern it.

Your home-country tax position on departure — split-year treatment for UK residents, exit formalities elsewhere in Europe — is worth settling with an independent cross-border adviser before the first salary lands, and cost of living and net position for Gulf clinicians gives the household-level numbers.

Run your own comparison with the UK versus GCC net position calculator or the Gulf net package estimator; we are happy to walk through the result with you before any interview.

Living in Abu Dhabi

The capital is the Gulf city most often described as liveable: Saadiyat and Al Reem, the Corniche for early mornings, a cultural calendar anchored by the Louvre Abu Dhabi, and a pace that suits clinicians who want a settled base between trips. The family provides accommodation for this post within the residence.

Direct flights to London take around seven hours and Dubai is an hour by road. Every appointment is live-in and single-status — the families we work with require clinicians who relocate alone — and the cultural adjustment guide covers the unwritten rules.

What happens when you apply

The family has retained us exclusively, which shapes how the search runs: there is no agency panel and no CV database. Vanessa, our Executive Search Lead, holds a confidential briefing call with every candidate we take forward — the appointment in detail, the family’s expectations and the life around the post — before anything is committed to paper.

From there the sequence is fixed: dossier and credential verification, an anonymised profile to the family office with your written authorisation, video interviews, an in-person meeting arranged by the family, then offer, NDA and a contract agreed directly with the family. The time-to-hire estimator shows what each stage takes for a physician appointment; confidential hiring process and confidentiality, NDA and vetting explain the family’s side.
