Licensing and Relocation
Eligibility for DHA (Dubai Health Authority) licensure is required. Medical Staff Talent advises you at every step of the regulatory pathway — Dataflow primary source verification, DHA registration, and relocation logistics — so your transition into the role is seamless. Full detail is available on our Gulf healthcare licensing support page.
What this appointment asks of you
Full clinical ownership of one family’s health and longevity programme: proactive health optimisation, 1:1 care, and coordination of the household’s physiotherapists, private duty nurses and performance nutritionists so that care is holistic and consistent across an internationally mobile lifestyle. High-fidelity diagnostic resources are available; global travel readiness is part of the remit. Family medicine, internal medicine or integrative longevity medicine certification with five years of practice is the requirement. The family is selecting for a physician who is evidence-led and candid about the limits of longevity science, refined and discreet in manner, and entirely comfortable being the clinical decision-maker wherever the family happens to be.
Licensing sequence: DHA, Dubai
Dubai licenses clinicians through the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) on its Sheryan platform. For a residential appointment the sequence is:
- DataFlow primary source verification of your primary medical degree, specialist certification (CCT, CCST, Facharzt or the equivalent European fellowship), current registration, certificate of good standing and experience letters — typically four to eight weeks with a complete dossier.
- DHA eligibility assessment: Tier-1 specialist certification generally exempts you from the DHA assessment, and consultant-grade eligibility follows the verified CV.
- Issue of the eligibility letter, then licence activation under the licensed private medical entity associated with the household, followed by the residence visa and Emirates ID.
- Household onboarding: NDA execution, accommodation, banking and the practical steps we coordinate with the family office before your first day.
With a complete dossier on day one we usually see DHA eligibility inside eight to twelve weeks. Our DHA licensing guide walks through each stage, registration versus licence explains why the eligibility letter is not yet a licence, and licensing for private residences explains how a household appointment is sponsored. GMC specialist registration and the value of a CCT or CCST cover the physician-specific checks.
How the package is structured
The figure quoted above — £260,000 – £320,000 per annum — is base remuneration, and it is paid tax-free: the UAE levies no personal income tax on employment earnings, so the number on the offer is the number that arrives.
Accommodation, transport, medical cover and repatriation flights sit outside the base figure, and global malpractice indemnity is provided by the household in the mandates we run — we ask every physician to check the territory, the limits and the run-off cover before signing, and our note on malpractice insurance in the Gulf explains what to look for.
End-of-service gratuity accrues under local labour law for each completed year and is paid when the contract ends; our note on end-of-service gratuity and repatriation explains how it is calculated and what to check in the contract.
If you are leaving the UK part-way through a tax year, split-year treatment under the Statutory Residence Test usually applies; keep a day-count from the date you leave and take advice from a cross-border adviser — we point every candidate to one, and tax-free wealth preservation for Gulf clinicians sets out the planning points.
Run your own comparison with the UK versus GCC net position calculator or the Gulf net package estimator; we are happy to walk through the result with you before any interview.
Living in Dubai
Dubai needs little introduction: a global hub with direct flights to almost everywhere, a residential market that runs from Jumeirah and the Palm to the villa communities of Dubai Hills and Arabian Ranches, and a service culture built around people who arrive from abroad. Household appointments normally include accommodation provided by the family — a villa within the compound or a residence nearby — so the practical question is how you will spend your time off.
Winters are the reason people stay; summers are hot and lived indoors or on the water early in the day. London is around seven hours by direct flight. Families have the region’s widest choice of British curriculum schools — the Dubai districts and school catchments guide explains catchments, and our international school fees benchmark gives current fees — and the cultural adjustment guide covers the adjustments worth anticipating.
How the search is run
We run this search as a full-cycle search under a retained, confidential mandate. The first conversation is with Vanessa, our Executive Search Lead, and it is a briefing rather than a screening: what the appointment involves day to day, what the household selects for, and whether it fits the life you want. Your CV goes nowhere until you say so.
If you proceed, your dossier is checked against the licensing route above, the household is briefed on an anonymised profile, and interviews run by video before an in-person meeting arranged by the family. Offer, NDA and contract are settled before any licensing fee is incurred. The time-to-hire estimator gives realistic timings for a physician appointment; confidential hiring process and confidentiality, NDA and vetting explain the household’s side of the process.
