- Private onboard cabin and relocation to the point of embarkation arranged by the family
- Seasonal Mediterranean routing with flights home between charters
Scope of Our Role
Many of the households commissioning this kind of appointment base themselves in the Gulf outside the Mediterranean season. Medical Staff Talent introduces and verifies clinicians. The engagement is contracted directly between the family and the clinician, and all local arrangements (visa, licensed entity, coordination with local clinics) remain with the family’s own office and advisers.
What this appointment asks of you
Onboard wellness nursing for a private family at sea: discreet one-to-one health monitoring, preventative care routines, management of minor presentations, medication and medical locker governance, and close coordination with the family’s medical team ashore. The treatment room moves with the client through the Mediterranean’s most exclusive coastal enclaves, which means adaptability — to a confined space, to changing ports, to the rhythm of a crew — is as important as clinical skill. Five years of private duty or residential experience is required, along with a genuine comfort with life at sea. Flights home between charters and a private cabin are part of the structure; composure and absolute discretion are part of the job.
Registration and sea-readiness
Onboard appointments follow the law of the vessel’s flag state and, within territorial waters or in port, that of the coastal state. The family’s office confirms the framework for each itinerary. When you travel with the family, all local arrangements (visa, licensing and coordination with local clinics) remain with the family’s own office and advisers. In practice the sequence is:
- Home registration in good standing (GMC, NMC, HCPC or your European regulator) with a current certificate of good standing.
- STCW basic safety training and a seafarer medical certificate (ENG1 or the national equivalent), which most management companies require before embarkation; maritime medical training is valued.
- Onboarding with the household and the captain: NDA execution, cabin allocation, medical locker and inventory handover, and the evacuation protocols for the season’s itinerary.
Our notes on maritime governance for onboard clinicians, superyacht medical staffing and how Gulf households staff their vessels explain what to prepare before the season. Nurses should also read yacht nurse appointments in the Mediterranean.
How the package is structured
Remuneration of £56,000 – £66,000 per annum is quoted net, with a private cabin and flights home between charters provided by the household; living costs at sea are close to nil, which is why onboard appointments build savings faster than the headline figure suggests.
Your personal tax position depends on your residence status and the days you spend in any one country during the season, so take advice from an independent cross-border adviser before signing; tax-free wealth preservation and reading the real numbers set out the questions to settle first.
Insurance is the other line to read carefully — the vessel’s policy, your own indemnity and repatriation cover — and our insurance and liability resources list what to ask the management company for.
Life on board and between charters
Life on board follows the season: the Côte d’Azur, the Balearics, Sardinia and the Amalfi coast, the Greek islands, with the itinerary set by the family and the vessel’s programme. Between charters there are flights home; during them there is a private cabin, a crew that runs to a high standard, and the discipline of a small, close community. Many of the households commissioning these appointments base themselves in the Gulf outside the Mediterranean season, and the shore months are often spent there.
Our notes on a clinical career on the Mediterranean circuit and how Gulf households staff their vessels describe the rhythm of the year. Every appointment is single-status, with accommodation provided by the household aboard and ashore.
How the search is run
We run this search as a full-cycle search under a retained, confidential mandate. The first conversation is with Vanessa, our Executive Search Lead, and it is a briefing rather than a screening: what the appointment involves day to day, what the household selects for, and whether it fits the life you want. Your CV goes nowhere until you say so.
If you proceed, your credentials are verified, the household is briefed on an anonymised profile, and interviews run by video before an in-person meeting arranged by the family. Offer, NDA and contract are agreed directly between you and the family. The time-to-hire estimator gives realistic timings for a nurse appointment; confidential hiring process and confidentiality, NDA and vetting explain the household’s side of the process.
