Licensing and Relocation

Medical Staff Talent provides discreet advisory guidance on documentation, licensing and onboarding throughout the QCHP (Qatar) licensing process, including what Dataflow primary source verification will ask of you and when. See our Gulf healthcare licensing support for the full sequence.

What this appointment asks of you

This is neonatal nursing at the scale of one family rather than one unit. The named infant is the whole caseload, and the work is built on vigilance more than volume: feeding and growth monitoring, thermoregulation, safe sleep, infection control in a residential setting, and the quiet judgement to know when a presentation warrants a call to the visiting consultant. The household will want to see how you communicate with parents who are anxious, articulate and used to being answered precisely. Composure, meticulous documentation and the ability to hold your clinical line courteously inside a private home are what the interview will test. Special care baby unit or NICU experience gives you the reflexes; the family care unit asks you to apply them without the ward around you.

Licensing sequence: DHP (QCHP), Qatar

Qatar licenses clinicians through the Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP) at the Ministry of Public Health, under the QCHP framework. For a residential appointment the sequence is:

  • DataFlow primary source verification of your nursing degree, current registration (NMC, NMBI or your European regulator), certificate of good standing and experience letters on institutional letterhead — typically four to eight weeks with a complete dossier.
  • DHP evaluation and registration: a Prometric assessment applies to some nursing categories; we confirm your exemption position before you commit.
  • Licence issuance against the sponsoring entity associated with the household, followed by the residence permit and medical examination.
  • Household onboarding: NDA execution, accommodation, banking and the practical steps we coordinate with the family office before your first day.

Qatar is a dossier-first jurisdiction — files that are complete and consistent move quickly, files with gaps stall. Our notes on DHP licensing in 2026, the QCHP licensing guide and why Qatar rewards preparation set out what to prepare. Nurses should also read how NMC, NMBI and European registrations are treated.

How the package is structured

The figure quoted above — £52,000 – £62,000 per annum — is base remuneration, and it is paid tax-free: Qatar levies no personal income tax on employment earnings, so the number on the offer is the number that arrives.

Accommodation, flights and medical cover are provided in addition to base, which is what makes the net position so different from a UK or European salary: with housing and travel carried by the household, most of the base figure is savings capacity. Health insurance in Gulf contracts explains the cover clauses worth reading twice.

End-of-service gratuity accrues under local labour law for each completed year and is paid when the contract ends; our note on end-of-service gratuity and repatriation explains how it is calculated and what to check in the contract.

If you are leaving the UK part-way through a tax year, split-year treatment under the Statutory Residence Test usually applies; keep a day-count from the date you leave and take advice from a cross-border adviser — we point every candidate to one, and tax-free wealth preservation for Gulf clinicians sets out the planning points.

Run your own comparison with the UK versus GCC net position calculator or the Gulf net package estimator; we are happy to walk through the result with you before any interview.

Living in Doha

Doha is compact, calm and well organised: West Bay and The Pearl for waterfront living, Lusail as the new city to the north, Msheireb’s restored downtown, Education City’s universities and a cultural offer led by the Museum of Islamic Art and the National Museum. Household appointments include accommodation provided by the family — within the estate or a residence nearby — so relocation is about settling in rather than searching.

Winters are pleasant and outdoor; summers are hot and humid. Hamad International flies direct to London and the European hubs in around seven hours. Families have a solid choice of British and American curriculum schools — the Doha compounds and schools guide covers compounds and catchments, our international school fees benchmark gives current fees — and the cultural adjustment guide covers the adjustments worth anticipating.

How we run this search

Every appointment of this kind follows the same discipline. It begins with a confidential briefing call with Vanessa, our Executive Search Lead, covering your clinical profile, your motivations and your family situation; nothing is written down that you have not agreed to share. Your dossier is then reviewed against the licensing route above so that we know, before anyone else is involved, whether your file will classify cleanly.

The household or its family office is briefed anonymously. Your name and documents are shared only with your written authorisation, first-stage interviews are held by video, and a final meeting is arranged in person — usually with travel organised by the household. Offer, NDA and contract follow, and licensing and mobilisation begin the same week. Our time-to-hire estimator shows how long each stage takes; the confidential hiring process and confidentiality, NDA and vetting pages explain how the household side is governed.
