Licensing and Relocation
Medical Staff Talent provides discreet advisory guidance on documentation, licensing and onboarding throughout the Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP) process under the QCHP framework, including what Dataflow primary source verification will ask of you and when. See our Gulf Healthcare Licensing Support for the full sequence.
What this appointment asks of you
Family medicine for one family, with a longevity mandate attached. The consultant provides day-to-day care for the Principal and immediate family, designs and oversees preventative and longevity programming, and coordinates visiting specialists and diagnostic services so that the family’s medicine is joined up rather than episodic. It is a materially different remit from a hospital family medicine list: fewer patients, deeper relationships, higher expectations, and the responsibility to be the household’s clinical conscience. Seven years of consultant-grade experience is the threshold. The household will want to see a physician who is current on preventative and longevity evidence, candid about what is unproven, and composed in a setting where protocol and discretion are non-negotiable.
Licensing sequence: DHP (QCHP), Qatar
The regulator in Qatar is the Department of Healthcare Professions (DHP) at the Ministry of Public Health, operating the QCHP framework, and the route for this appointment is:
- DataFlow primary source verification of your primary medical degree, specialist certification (CCT, CCST, Facharzt or the equivalent European fellowship), current registration, certificate of good standing and experience letters — typically four to eight weeks with a complete dossier.
- DHP evaluation and registration: Tier-1 specialist certification generally exempts you from the Prometric assessment at consultant grade, and we confirm this before you commit.
- Licence issuance against the sponsoring entity associated with the household, followed by the residence permit and medical examination.
- Household onboarding: NDA execution, accommodation, banking and the practical steps we coordinate with the family office before your first day.
Qatar is a dossier-first jurisdiction — files that are complete and consistent move quickly, files with gaps stall. Our notes on DHP licensing in 2026, the QCHP licensing guide and why Qatar rewards preparation set out what to prepare. Consultants should also read the value of a CCT or CCST in Gulf appointments.
Reading the package
Base remuneration for this appointment is £280,000 – £360,000 per annum, paid without deduction: there is no personal income tax on employment earnings in Qatar, which is why a Gulf figure should never be compared line-for-line with a gross UK or European salary.
Villa or residence accommodation, transport, health cover and flights are provided in addition to base, and indemnity is arranged by the household; before signing, read the policy territory and the run-off provision — medical liability in the UAE and Saudi Arabia sets out the questions to ask.
An end-of-service gratuity accrues for every completed year of service and is settled on departure — see end-of-service gratuity and repatriation for the calculation and the contract clauses that govern it.
Your home-country tax position on departure — split-year treatment for UK residents, exit formalities elsewhere in Europe — is worth settling before the first salary lands; we introduce candidates to a cross-border adviser, and cost of living and net position for Gulf clinicians gives the household-level numbers.
Run your own comparison with the UK versus GCC net position calculator or the Gulf net package estimator; we are happy to walk through the result with you before any interview.
Living in Doha
Qatar’s capital is the easiest Gulf city to navigate day to day — short distances, a modern metro, a Corniche for early mornings and a winter season of sport and culture — and the household provides accommodation for this appointment, which removes the main relocation variable.
Direct flights to London take around seven hours. Our Doha compounds and schools guide covers compounds, schools and commuting, the Gulf family relocation brief explains schooling and spousal employment, and the cultural adjustment guide covers what nobody puts in the offer letter.
How the search is run
We run this search as a full-cycle search under a retained, confidential mandate. The first conversation is with Vanessa, our Executive Search Lead, and it is a briefing rather than a screening: what the appointment involves day to day, what the household selects for, and whether it fits the life you want. Your CV goes nowhere until you say so.
If you proceed, your dossier is checked against the licensing route above, the household is briefed on an anonymised profile, and interviews run by video before an in-person meeting arranged by the family. Offer, NDA and contract are settled before any licensing fee is incurred. The time-to-hire estimator gives realistic timings for a physician appointment; confidential hiring process and confidentiality, NDA and vetting explain the household’s side of the process.
